Ten PhD positions\u00a0are available in the area of &#8220;Big Data Analysis in Chemistry&#8221;, all of which offer a mix of time spent in academia and with industrial partners. This wealth of data provides unique opportunities to get insights into the mechanisms of disease and to identify starting points for treatments. At the same time, the size, complexity and heterogeneity of available data sets pose substantial challenges for computational analysis and design.<\/p>\n<p>Aim of this project is to address the challenges posed by large, heterogeneous, incomplete, and noisy datasets. Specifically, we aim to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>apply machine learning technologies to derive predictive QSAR models from real-world life science data sets;<\/li>\n<li>analyze trade-offs between training data accuracy and quantity, in particular, in the context of high-throughput screening data;<\/li>\n<li>develop and apply methods to systematically account for noise and experimental errors in the search for active compounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Planned secondments:<\/strong> Three months stay in <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bigchem.eu\/node\/43\" target=\"_blank\">NextMove<\/a> to work with data automatically extracted from patents using unique technology of company. Three months in <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bigchem.eu\/node\/12\" target=\"_blank\">HMGU<\/a> to collect data from public databases such as <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ebi.ac.uk\/chembl\/\" target=\"_blank\">ChEMBL<\/a>, <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"http:\/\/ochem.eu\" target=\"_blank\">OCHEM<\/a>, <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"https:\/\/pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\" target=\"_blank\">PubChem<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Employment:<\/strong> 36 months total, including <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bigchem.eu\/node\/35\" target=\"_blank\">Boehringer Ingelheim<\/a>, Biberach, Germany (months 1-18) and the <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bigchem.eu\/node\/24\" target=\"_blank\">University of Bonn<\/a>, Germany (months 19-36).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enrollment in PhD program: <\/strong>The ESR will be supervised by <a class=\"init-recruitercolorboxwithin-processed-processed\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bigchem.eu\/node\/25\" target=\"_blank\">Prof. J.
